We recommend genuine FAAC or OEM-equivalent motors for the 400 and 402 series because the gearbox interface is proprietary and aftermarket copies tend to run hot in sustained California sun exposure. Signs Your FAAC Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing

• Gate hums but doesn’t move. This is almost always the start capacitor failing or a stripped gear in the motor’s reduction drive. The motor is getting power, but it can’t produce the starting torque to move the gate leaf.

• Motor housing is hot to the touch after a cycle or two. FAAC motors have a thermal overload that cuts power when the windings overheat. A motor consistently running hot means the internal insulation is breaking down, and replacement is close.
• Intermittent operation after rain. Moisture has found a seam in the motor housing or the grommets where wires enter. The capacitor stores enough charge to knock you off a ladder even with the breaker off, and the gate leaf itself weighs anywhere from 300 to 800 pounds.
